Transaction Policy
Q. Where is the Library located?
A. Library is located in the Ground floor.
Q. What is the opening hours of the library?
A. Library is open for transactions between 9.30am to 5.30pm.
Q. Can we use library during non-Library hours?
A. No! The library usage is restricted to the above mentioned library timings.
Q. Whom do I contact for library details?
A. Please contact the Front Office.
Q. Are the iACT library functions automated?
A. No! Will be automated soon.
Procurement Policy
Q. May I know about the iACT Library Collection?
A. iACT Library has a collection of books, journals/magazines, cd-rom, audio
tapes, teaching aids & textbooks.
Q. What are the subject coverage of iACT library?
A. iACT library Library covers information related to activities/course To name
a few English Language, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Science, Mathematics &
Management.
Q. Who can recommend for the purchase of the books for the library?
A. All employees of iACT are entitled to recommend books which is routed through
Director.
Q. How do I recommend for purchase of books & journals?
A. Please fill in & give the hard copy of the Book Requisition form to
LIBRARIAN. The suggested book will be purchased only after the book is reviewed
by requisitioner & approved by Director. Journal requisitions also to be routed
through the Director.
Q. What is the periodicity of purchase of books ?
A. Books procurement process is carried as and when required.
Q. Can we review books before the final purchase?
A. Sure. We do recommend the same. The requested books will be supplied by local
vendors for a period of 1 week. The requisitioner have to review the same &
provide feedback to LIBRARIAN by filling in the Book Review Form.
Q. How long does it take to receive book from the vendor?
A. Generally it takes 1-2 days, if the title is readily available with the local
vendor. If the book is not available locally, we need to place order for
importing the same. This ordered book takes 4-6 weeks to procure & not available
for review.
Q. Who finally approves for the purchase of library resources?
A. Final approvals for the procurement will rest with the Director subject to
budget limitations.

Q. How do I become the member of the library?
A. Please provide your FULL NAME, e-Mail & your supervisor's name to librarian.
Q. Will I be given Library Borrower Card to borrow Lib. Materials?
A. Yes. 2 cards for Books, 1 card for Journal, 1 card for Audio/CD
Q. How are the books arranged in the library?
A. Many of you may be baffled by the hieroglyphics that you see on the spines of
the books as you wander aimlessly around the Library. But would you believe it,
there is actually some method to our madness and the Library follows a scheme
called DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) developed in the nineteenth century by
a clever man called Melvil Dewey.
Q. What is a call number?
A. Every book in the library is given a unique call number to serve as an
address for locating the book on the shelf. You can see it at the bottom of the
spine of each book. There may be many books with same call No. depending on its
subject.
Q. Dewey Decimal Classification ?
A. The Dewey Decimal System co-ordinates materials on the same subject and on
related subjects to make items easier to find on the shelves. It has ten main
classes,
· 000 Generalities
· 100 Philosophy and Psychology
· 200 Religion
· 300 Social Science
· 400 Language
· 500 Natural Science and Mathematics
· 600 Technology (Applied Sciences)
· 700 Arts
· 800 Literature
· 900 Geography and History
Each of the above classes has ten divisions.
These divisions are further divided and then further divided with each division
becoming more specific. The more numbers, the more specific the subject.
Q. What is ACCN. No. (Accession No.)?
A. ACCN. No. (Accession No.) is the serial No. assigned to each of the library
materials. This No. is Unique. No two books can have the same Accn. No. All the
books will have simple numbers.
Q. What is the identification for iACT library books?
A. The books will have library rubber stamp impression is seen on the title page
of the book with details like Accn No.
Q. Can I borrow Books/Journals from the library?
A. SURE. You may borrow the lib. Materials except for the books which are meant
for REFERENCE ONLY & the current issues of the journals displayed on the journal
rack.
Q. Can I borrow lib. materials in librarian's absence?
A. No. You are requested NOT to attempt for such transactions.
Q. How will I borrow lib. materials?
A. Please produce your MEMBERSHIP CARD.
Q. How many books/journals can I borrow at a time?
A. You are allowed to borrow 2 books, Audio tape & a journal at a time.
Q. For how long Can I borrow the lib. materials?
A. Books are issued for a period of 2 WEEKS only. Journals & Audio/CD's are
issued for a period of 4 days only.
Q. Can I renew the books, if so how?
A. You may renew the books / Journals by bringing books to the library. Maximum
No. of renewals restricted to TWO times provided there is no claim for the same
book.
Q. Can I reserve the book? If so, how?
A. Sure. You can reserve books by giving the details to the librarian.
Q. How will I come to know about the availability of reserved book for issue?
A. You will receive the intimation from librarian.
Q. Can I return the book in abscene of lib. staff?
A. Library Materials MUST BE returned to LIBRARIAN only. Please DO NOT leave any
materials on the Librarian's table.
Q. How do I know the due date of the book issued?
A. Please Check due date slip in the book. Please do return/renew on or before
the date mentioned.
Q. How will I know the particular book is available in the library?
A. Contact Librarian.
Q. How will I know Who has borrowed a particular book?
A. Contact Librarian.
Q. Will I receive any reminder for overdue books?
A. Yes. Will be intimated orally.
Q. What happens if I lose the book?
A. Borrowers are requested to be more careful with the issued book. If the book
is lost, borrower is requested to replace the book. If the book is not available
in the market the cost of the book will be recovered from the borrower.
